Ayub bin al-Mutawakkil said:

When al-Khaleel benefited a person with something, he would not show him that he had benefited him, and if he had benefited from someone in something he would show him that he had benefited from him.

Note: al-Dhahabi commented: "Factions of people in our time have become the opposite." Al-Khaleel is Abu Abd al-Rahmaan, Ibn Ahmad al-Faraaheedee (d. around 170H).
